Think Wild: Wildlife Education Intern

25-35 hours/week (270 hours)

Think Wild is a wildlife hospital and conservation center in Central Oregon.  Think Wild’s mission is to inspire the high desert community to care for and protect native wildlife through education, conservation, rescue, and rehabilitation.  Learn more about Think Wild here.

A typical day…
A typical day will involve working with and teaching High Desert Museum summer campers. Our campers range in grades from Kindergarten to 5th grade. The intern will help engage campers by playing games, assisting with learning activities, and promoting a positive and fun camp environment.

Skills learned…
Interns will receive training in childhood development, social and emotional learning for children, behavior management and educational lesson development. When both staff and intern feel that they’re ready, the intern will have the opportunity to create their own lesson plan and teach it during camp. Depending on availability, there may be an opportunity for CPR and First Aid certification.

Schedule and other details…
This position will work M-F, 8:30–4:30. Transportation to and from the museum is required.

Job requirements…
A desire to work with children is required, as well as the ability to work both inside and outside in a high energy environment.

The team…
The intern will work most closely with our museum educators and camp facilitators, while having the opportunity to learn more about lesson planning with the team’s associate curators.
